Lady Railers off to a 3-1 start to the softball season

The LCHS softball team has been able to squeeze in four games already this season, in between rain showers and extremely cold and windy Spring conditions.

Lincoln 7

Warrensburg-Latham 5

The Lady Railers picked up their first win of the season on March 15th with a 7-5 victory over Warrensburg-Latham. 

Lincoln had 12 hits in the game, with Ryen Stoltzenburg leading the offense at the plate. Stoltzenburg was 4-for-4  with two runs scored and an RBI. Cara Farnam was also 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI. Malena Kirgan went 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in two runs and scored one run. 

Riley Tungate, Cassie Bridge, Abbie Glenn and Alex Eads each had one hit for Lincoln versus the Cardinals. 

Cara Farnam (1-0) was the winning pitcher for Lincoln. Farnam threw seven innings and recorded 10 strikeouts. She gave up six hits and five runs, two of which were earned runs.

PORTA 0

On March 17th Lincoln defeated PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central 10-0 behind the excellent pitching of Cara Farnam. Farnam (2-0) tossed five innings and only allowed one hit while striking out 10 batters. 

The Lady Railers offense pounded out 12 hits versus Blue Jays pitching. Ryen Stoltzenburg was 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs and a run scored. Cara Farnam was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Abbie Glenn was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Malena Kirgan was also 2-for-3 with an RBI. 

Taryn Stoltzenburg, Alex Eads, Chloe Johnston and Faith Eckhardt each had one hit to round out the Lincoln offense.

Sacred Heart-Griffin 2

Lincoln 1

On March 21st the Lady Railers lost 2-1 in a pitching dual in extra innings with Sacred Heart-Griffin. The Cyclones led the game 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning when Alex Eads tied the game on a ground out, scoring Cara Farnam from third. Farnam had singled to start the inning and traveled her way around the bases on a sacrifice bunt by Abbie Glenn and a single by Ryen Stoltzenburg.  

The Cyclones took a 2-1 lead in the top of the eighth inning. Gretchen Trello’s lead-off double to start the inning gave the Cyclones a good scoring opportunity. One out later, Maddy Kuleck singled to drive home Trello with the go-ahead run. 

The Lady Railers were retired 1-2-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning. 

Rosie Bartletti picked up the win for Sacred Heart-Griffin. She allowed one run on three hits and struck out 11 Lady Railers. 

Cara Farnam (2-1) took the tough loss for Lincoln. She allowed two runs on five hits and struck out 10 Cyclones. 

Farnam was 2-for-3 for Lincoln at the plate. Ryen Stoltzenburg had the other hit for the Lady Railers.

Williamsville 2

On March 25th the Lady Railers defeated Williamsville 3-2 in a game played at the Lincoln Junior High School field. 

The game was tied 1-1 after the first inning. The Lady Railers scored twice in the fourth inning to take a 3-1 lead. The Lady Bullets scored one run in the seventh inning but Lincoln held on to get the 3-2 win with Cara Farnam in the circle. 

Farnam tossed seven innings and allowed just three hits and two runs, only one run was earned. Farnam walked one batter and struck out nine Lady Bullets. 

Farnam was also 3-for-3 at the plate, including a triple. Farnam scored one run. Abbie Glenn was 1-for-3 with an RBI double and a run scored. Chloe Johnston also had a hit and an RBI for Lincoln. Taryn Stoltzenburg and Malena Kirgan also had hits for the Lady Railers.

Lincoln improves to 3-1 on the season. 

The Lady Railers will host Morton today at Schweitzer Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
