At the Monday night voting session of the Lincoln City Council item
9F was the last possible motion for the night and involved a request
from Jennifer Hunt of the Hunt For Foundation for $2,500 for the
annual Juneteenth celebration in Lincoln.
When the item came up, Mayor Tracy Welch said that he had sent the
aldermen a copy of an email from the city’s Diversity and Inclusion
Commission (DNI) Chair Jeanette Harris, withdrawing the request on
behalf of Hunt and the foundation and asking that the item be
removed from the agenda.
There was not further discussion on the topic and no one from the
DNI or the Hunt Foundation was in the room for comment.

The motion to permanently remove the item from the agenda was made by Rick
Hoefle and seconded by newly appointed Ward One Alderman Rob Jones. The motion
passed with a vote of 7-0 with alderman Steve Parrott being absent for the
evening.
Welch shared with aldermen that the Juneteenth committee had made a request to
the tourism bureau and did receive grant funding for their event.
