For the first time in her career, senior Emme Olson has earned First Team All-Region honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association as announced by the organization on Thursday.

Illinois State switched from the Great Lakes Region to the Mideast Region in 2009 and have placed at least one student-athlete on an all-region team in nine of 13 seasons since the switch. Olson’s sister, Abby Olson, was the first Redbird to receive All-Region First Team honors in 2009 when the switch was made, and [Emme] Olson is the first Redbird to earn a place on the First Team since Jordan de los Reyes in 2017.

Olson started her playing career at Illinois State in 2019 and has played in and started every game of her career thus far, which totals 167 games. She started at second base in all 52 games this season, which is the most games the Redbirds have played in a single season in her four seasons at ISU. Olson had a career year at the plate, leading the Redbirds with a .351 batting average, 54 hits, 16 doubles, 24 walks, and a .445 on-base percentage.

The second baseman from Hartsburg, Ill. has been recognized for her many achievements, both on and off the field, as a Redbird this season. After being named a 2022 Senior CLASS Award candidate in early March of 2022, Olson was also selected as a CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team recipient, named to the All-MVC Second Team and All-Defensive Team, and awarded MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team accolades.

She also etched her name into the Redbird Softball record book this season as her 16 single-season (2022) and 40 career doubles (2019-22) are tied for fifth in program history in their respective categories.
