[May 26, 2022]  ATLANTA - Deane May, 94, of Lincoln and formerly of Atlanta, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Copper Creek Cottages in Lincoln.

Visitation:  10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2022 at The First United Methodist Church in Lincoln

Service:  11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church
Due to family health concerns, masks and social distance in the pews is required for this funeral. Masks will be available should you need.

Obituary

Deane May, 94, of Lincoln and formerly of Atlanta, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Copper Creek Cottages in Lincoln.

Deane was born on December 11, 1927 in Lawndale, the son of Bernard and Mary Grace Williamson May. He married Jane May on July 31, 1949 in Decatur. She preceded him in death in 2016.

Deane is survived by his three daughters: Rebecca Weatherford of Iowa City, Iowa; Cynthia (Charles) Bickhaus of Denton, Texas and Margaret Ruble of Plano, Texas; his brother, Richard May; his sister, Barbara Fink; his brother-in-law, Virgil Morrell; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Deane was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; three brothers: Bob, Jim and Bill May; three sisters: Mary Lou Wilson, Helen Haseley, and Dorothy Morrell; three brothers-in-law: Gibb Wilson, Vernon Haseley Sr., and Norman Fink; three sisters-in-law: Pat May, Carol May and Lois Zurkammer May, and his son-in-law, Brian Ruble.

Deane most recently retired from May Machining, however, he spent most of his career farming in Lawndale, Armington and Atlanta raising Polled Shorthorn cattle and Chester White hogs and cultivating corn and soybeans.

He loved to restore old farm implements and gasoline engines and was a member of the Land of Lincoln Antique Tractor & Engine Club. He served on the Logan County Board for eight years, and he retired as the chairman. Deane was deeply involved with the Hawes Elevator preservation in Atlanta, a member of the Lincoln American Legion Post #263 and First United Methodist Church in Lincoln.

A private family service and burial will be held at a later date.

Services for Deane will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at The First United Methodist Church in Lincoln. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service (10:30-11:30am) also at the church (Due to family health concerns, masks and social distance in the pews is required for this funeral. Masks will be available should you need.).

Arrangements have been entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Deane’s name to Lincoln Community High School FFA Alumni.
