[November 01, 2022]   The Lincoln Park District enjoyed an outstanding turnout of youngsters and their adult counterparts Thursday evening for the annual Halloween FunFest.

The event annually includes a wide variety of businesses and organizations coming together in the indoor game courts at the Recreation Center. There, visiting children dressed in the Halloween finest go from table to table, playing games and winning prizes. Those prizes included stickers, magically glowing bracelets, and a bright neon green necklace that flashed, drawing attention to the child.

The necklaces are an excellent item for children to wear on Monday night at the city-wide trick-or-treat event in Lincoln and other communities.

During the pandemic, the park district offered a drive-through haunted trail on the gravel road around the baseball diamonds. This year, that trail returned in a modified format. Instead of driving, visitors walked the path around the diamonds, starting in the back parking lot closest to the LPD buildings and ending in the parking lot closer to the area where the annual fireworks are held.

At the trail's end, the local fire department carefully watched a fire pit, and a food truck was available where families could get hot dogs for roasting before heading home for the night.

Attendance this year was huge. Children and adults wore costumes, and it looked like most of those present were families, which is a goal of the LPD. The family-friendly event is intended to bring adults and children together for a safe and memorable time.
