Christmas on Route 66 Weekend, November 26th & 27th in Atlanta

The City of Atlanta, Illinois announces its second Christmas on Route 66 Weekend, the weekend following Thanksgiving (November 26th and 27th).

The weekend will commence with the Indoor Holiday Market inside Union Hall located at 114 SW Arch Street, Arch Street Artisans, and The Gift Box. The holiday market hours will be Saturday November 26th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday November 27th from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The market will have a variety of vendors to include laser engraved goods, honey, pet bandanas, soy candles, jewelry, doll clothes, and so much more! Brew 66 mobile coffee truck will be serving festive coffees and hot chocolates. They will be parked outside of Union Hall during the market.

On Sunday November 27th Santa Claus will be at the market for photos from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Following the Indoor Holiday Market on the 27th, the Christmas Parade, with the theme “White Christmas,” will take place. The parade start time is approximately 4:30 p.m. The parade will begin at Nutrien Ag Solutions, continue down Arch Street, turn right onto North Elm Street, turn right onto East Street, and then right onto East South Street. There will be standing room and places where people can park to watch the parade from their vehicles.

Immediately after the parade, at approximately 5 - 5:15 p.m. in Route 66 Park (corner of Race and Arch Street), the 6th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting will happen. Atlanta’s own, Susan Hoblit, will be lighting the tree. There will be a new 20 foot holiday banner on display in the park. The special Christmas Route 66 shield will also be on display in Route 66 Park. Afterwards, enjoy the holiday lights in Route 66 Park and Xenia Park.

Before and after the Christmas parade or until the supply runs out, the Atlanta Christmas Committee will be handing out complimentary hot chocolate and cookies inside the Visitors Center located at 114 SW Arch Street.

There are several ways to support the Atlanta Christmas Committee during Christmas on Route 66 Weekend. The Committee will be selling Christmas Route 66 shield stickers and Atlanta holiday postcard bundles at the market. Missy’s Sweet Shoppe at the Palms Grill Café will donate a portion of the profits from every specialty cookie sold November 26-27. Chubby’s Bar and Grill will donate $1 from every cheeseburger special sold November 26-27. Country-Aire Restaurant will donate 10% of food purchases on November 27.

The Atlanta Christmas Committee will use the proceeds for new decorations and maintenance of current decorations.
