Mount Pulaski edges Cardinals 41-38

Clay Aylesworth leads Hilltoppers with 19 points

[November 30, 2022]  Mount Pulaski hosted Warrensburg-Latham Tuesday night and the Hilltoppers were able to hold off a late surge by the Cardinals and earn a 41-38 victory.

This one was a nail-biter from the start.

The two teams were tied 9-9 at the end of the first quarter.

Clay Aylesworth and Evan Cooper guided the Hilltoppers to a 22-12 lead at halftime. Aylesworth and Cooper combined to score 11 of the Hilltoppers 13 points in the second quarter. The Mount Pulaski defense held the Cardinals to just one three-pointer in the second quarter.

After three quarters of play, Mount Pulaski was on top 33-26.

The Cardinals outscored Mount Pulaski 13-8 in the fourth quarter but the Hilltoppers were able to get key free throws from Evan Cooper and Clay Aylesworth, who also tossed in four more points, to ensure the 41-38 win.

Clay Aylesworth led all scorers with 19 points. Evan Cooper added 11 points for Mount Pulaski.

Mount Pulaski improved their record to 2-3 on the season.

In the JV game, Beau Tschantz led Mount Pulaski with 10 points as the Hilltoppers defeated the Cardinals 36-18 for their first JV win of the season.

Mount Pulaski will play at Riverton on Friday night. The JV game will start at 6 p.m. The Varsity game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
