[October 03, 2022]  ATLANTA - Catherine Apel, 97, of Atlanta, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

Visitation:  Friday, September 30, 2022, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln

Service:  10 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln

Obituary

Catherine Apel, 97, of Atlanta, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

Catherine was born November 30, 1924, in Hartsburg, the daughter of Henry and Rena (Klockenga) Ubbenga. She married Vernon Apel on September 28, 1946, in Hartsburg. He preceded her in death on January 25, 2003.

Catherine is survived by her children, Donna Bishop of Atlanta and Daniel (Sharon) Apel of Downers Grove; her grandchildren, Nicole Apel of Chicago, Hans (Katie) Bishop of Atlanta, and Kristin (Jon Persangi) Bishop of Chicago; and her great-grandchildren, Arianna, Oliver, Charlotte, and Anthony.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon; and brothers, Leo, George, and H. Robert.

Catherine was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln. She taught Sunday School for over 45 years.

The service for Catherine will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lincoln. Visitation will be held Friday, September 30, 2022, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln. Burial will follow the service at New Union Cemetery in Lincoln.

Memorials may be made in Catherine’s name to Zion Lutheran Church or School.
