Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois’ (CAPCIL) Foster Grandparent Program hosts volunteer recognition luncheon

[September 23, 2022]   CAPCIL receives funding from AmeriCorp Senior to provide the volunteer program to persons 55 years and older in their service area.

The Foster Grandparent program is a nationwide program who places volunteers in educational settings to assist and mentor children with exceptional needs. The program is not only designed to help children and give classrooms extra assistance but to also provide volunteers with a tax-free stipend to help supplement their income while giving them a sense of purpose.

CAPCIL has hosted this program for more than 50 years and had many dedicated volunteers during that time. On August 24th, a recognition luncheon for the programs current volunteers was held at one of the programs volunteer stations, Main Street Church of the Living God in Decatur. Volunteers received certificates, program apparel and gift bag to thank them for their years of service.

The following volunteers were recognized (listed by county and years of service:

Macon County volunteers

Under one year:  Willie Pryor, Pamela Currie, Patricia Walker, and Annie Brady

Three years:  Velma Pryor

Four years:  Carol Harper

Five years:   Searcy Cobb and Diane Bond

Six years:  Hilda Walker, Lovenia Love, Mae Thomas, and Lorine Cook

Seven years:  Stephanie Dawson and Margaret Walker

Nine years:  Katherine Marshall and Paula Clark

Ten years:  Callie Terry

Logan County volunteers include Lorraine Lewis (under 1 year), Clayton Reed (4 years) and Janet Skelton (7 years).

Mason County volunteers include Lois Nicodemus (9 years).

Special Recognition and congratulations went to Shirley Jones of Macon County for 20 years of service.

The Foster Grandparent program is currently accepting applications to fill volunteer station openings in the following counties, Dewitt, Logan, Macon, Mason, Menard, Piatt, and Fulton Counties.
