The diary and culinary judging was held at the Logan
County Fair on Tuesday, August 2nd. This competition involved many
baked goods, but excluded most cakes, snack food, and candies. Foods
in those categories will be judged on Friday. This competition also
included goods that were canned.
|
The event kicked off at 10 a.m., with the judging
of the baked goods, and ran until about 1:30 p.m., with a short
break for lunch. The judging of the canned goods was done afterward,
running until a bit before 3 p.m.
At the start of the event, Marcia Greenslate, Department O
Superintendent, welcomed everyone and explained a bit about how the
judging was going to be conducted. She also informed the crowd that,
while no official count of the number of entries is kept, this year
may have had more entries than any other year prior. The judge for
both the baked goods and canned goods was Jamie Jones. Jones, a
resident of Mount Pulaski, is also the coordinator for the Lincoln
Memorial Hospital Market held each Saturday at the fairgrounds.
As the judging began, there were a lot of moving parts. The baked
goods had to be moved to the judge’s table, unwrapped, marked (if
that good won), rewrapped, and then moved off the judge’s table to
make room for more. Deb Allen, Judy Haseley, Kelly Haseley, Linda
McCuan, Sarah Dahmn, and Marcia Greenslate all made sure this
process ran smoothly.
Miss Logan County Fair 2023 also came by after the lunch break and
helped with this process.
