Lincoln Masons offer hardy breakfast after Saturday morning launches

[August 28, 2023]   The Lincoln Masonic Lodge put on a biscuits and gravy breakfast to coincide with the Balloons Over 66 festival in Lincoln. The Masons held this breakfast from 7:00 - 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26th.

The breakfast included, as the name of the event suggests, biscuits and gravy, along with eggs and sausage. Coffee was also served. The breakfast was delicious, and the members of the lodge could be seen in the kitchen working hard preparing the food. It was all-you-can-eat, and the Masons wanted to make sure everyone had enough, cheerfully asking people if they wanted more as they came up for seconds.

Casey Hoag, the Master of the lodge, was kind enough to share some information about the Masons and what they do. As a fraternal order, Masons are a brotherhood who look out for one another.

Hoag shared a couple of stories to help solidify this point. When he first moved into Lincoln, Hoag wasn’t familiar with anyone in the community. After joining the Masons, he quickly gained a community of friends who helped make Lincoln feel more like home. Another time, Hoag’s car broke down. One of the Masons has many connections to people in town who work on cars and helped Hoag get his car repaired.

Hoag went on to share some of the amazing things Lincoln’s Masons do for the members of the community. The Lincoln Masons sponsor several kids to go to band camp each summer. They also sponsor the summer reading program at the Lincoln Public Library. In addition to that, they also donate to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, a reading program that sends kids one book a month in an effort to increase their love of reading and access to reading materials.

As many in the Lincoln community may know, Lincoln’s Masonic Lodge is not a new addition. This particular lodge actually dates all the way back to 1856. There is a wall of previous masters of the lodge, as well as a list of those who were masters, but never had a picture taken.
