[August 30, 2023]   A car show was held at Memorial Park in Lincoln on Sunday, August 27th. The weather had finally cooled off after the excruciating week, and many people were talking about that fact while admiring the cars on display.

Music was playing and food was cooking. Many of the car owners brought lawn chairs to sit near their cars. Some were with groups of friends having a great time, while others were talking with people passing by about their cars.

Those who brought cars came from all over Illinois, and some from outside the state. Some were more recent models, while some dated back as far as the 1920’s. Bert and Bev Sluser from Pekin brought their teal ‘66 Rambler Rebel, a model that Bert shared hasn’t been made in a long time. Bob Weltig from Dolton City brought his light blue ‘55 Ford F-100. Danny Epperson of the Blue Mound area brought a green ‘71 GMC K2500 to show off.

One gentleman named Steve Thomas and his son-in-law Jared brought their red ‘88 Ford Mustang. Thomas shared that he bought it from a friend of his. He also helped his friend put the car together a number of years back. One man even shared that the car he brought used to be owned by Jerry Newberrey of Lincoln.

At the end of the show, awards were handed out to the owners of the cars that got the most votes from those in attendance. Awards were also given for Sponsor’s Choice as well as Best of Show.
