A benefit is being held at the Eagles Club, 1621 N Kickapoo St. Lincoln on Saturday, September 9th, 2023, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. for Lincoln resident Gena Richmond.

Gena was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She and her partner Christy Turley are long-time Lincoln residents. Gena is battling Stage 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma and is undergoing chemotherapy.

Join us as we come together as a community to support someone who is willing to do anything for anyone!

The event features live music, drinks, BBQ, 50/50 raffle, bake sale, bounce house, and other fun activities for kids! All funds raised go directly to Gena's treatment. If you are unable to make it and still want to donate we are taking early donations. Look out for donation boxes that will be set up around Lincoln at local stores and restaurants.

Gena Richmond is 46 years old and has lived in Lincoln most of her life. She was an infant and preschool teacher for many years and most know her lovingly as Ms. Gena. She has since worked at Cresco Labs.

She is the mother of four young adult children that she shares with her wife, Christy. In February Gena's world was turned upside down when she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She has Stage 2 Invasive Ductal Carcinoma Grade 3 that has metastasized to her axillary lymph nodes.

She also was diagnosed with BRCA1 which means she is at high risk for other cancers.

Gena's treatment plan has been 20 weeks of chemotherapy, double mastectomy, radiation treatment and a full hysterectomy, all back to back. She has been on short term disability since March and will be until December.

She has had many setbacks and health issues during treatments including a week in the hospital with lung embolism, pneumonia, and liver issues that have slowed down her chemo. She also suffered a lung infection recently that was very serious and required her to miss Chemo.

Gena has endured all of this with grace and a smile. Christy has taken her to Springfield to Simon Cancer Center two to three times a week for treatments and appointments since March.

The strain of this illness has changed their lives greatly! And the road ahead is long and difficult for Gena and Christy, with many more challenges to face.

The community is asked to come out on Saturday September 9th and show their support for Gena in her battle. The community support will ease the stress of this emotional time, and the financial support will help relieve the burden on the family.
