The
Lady Railers hosted the Sacred Heart-Griffin Cyclones on Friday
night in a Central State Conference matchup that was another
physical contest from start to finish. Kloe Froebe received a bloody
nose in the second quarter and missed about a minute of the action
on the court, but she still got the best of the Cyclones, outscoring
the team with 27 points and helping her team to a 58-26 win.
First Quarter
Taryn Stoltzenburg’s three started the Lady Railers scoring versus
the Cyclones. After two early free throws by Froebe Lincoln was up
5-0. Froebe would pour in two more baskets and Jenna Bowman would
sink a three before the Cyclones coach called a timeout with the
score 12-4. Froebe, Bowman and Tori Geriets extended the lead to
19-4. With Becca Heitzig tossing in two buckets the score was 23-10
as the first quarter came to a close.
Second Quarter
Lincoln managed just six points in the second quarter, with
Stoltzenburg, Froebe and Heitzig responsible for the scoring.
Lincoln held strong with a 29-19 lead at the half.
Third Quarter
Eight seconds into the third quarter, Froebe was fouled on a three
and promptly sank three consecutive free throws, extending the lead
to 32-19. A minute later, Froebe’s three increased the score to
35-19. Froebe swiped the ball at the 4:38 mark and shared it with
Heitzig, who’s bank shot resulted in a 37-22 score. Whiteman took
her turn going to the bank forty seconds later and the lead was
39-22. Froebe, Heitzig and Whiteman accounted for the rest of the
offense in the third quarter and with the Cyclones scoring just a
lone three in the quarter, Lincoln was on top 46-22.
Fourth Quarter
Here comes Lincoln, aiming for that running clock. Heitzig hit a
jumper in the lane at the 7:31 mark and twenty seconds later Froebe
stole the ball and scored on a layup. After Whiteman’s two points
off the offensive rebound, the score was 52-24 and the running clock
was within reach. Froebe put the Lady Railers over the hump near the
four minute mark with a three and Lincoln was successful with a
55-24 lead. The starters exited the game as the running clock took
effect. Makinley Knapp added one free throw and Lily Holmes scored
on the offensive rebound to settle the final score at 58-26.
Kloe Froebe led Lincoln with 27 points.
Becca Heitzig added 10 points.
The Lady Railers Varsity team improves to 7-0 on the season. They
are 2-0 in the Central State Eight Conference.
This concluded Lincoln’s run of seven games in a span of seven days.
A day of rest is most likely needed.
