The
Lady Railers defeated Southeast 68-32 on Tuesday night in Central
State Eight action in Springfield.
Lincoln was led in scoring by Kloe Froebe with 34 points, making her
night’s work a success in outscoring the opponent.
Becca Heitzig also notched double-figures with 11 points.
First Quarter
Kloe Froebe hit her first shot attempt, a three from the top of the
key, and Lincoln was the first team on the scoreboard. With Froebe
and Becca Heitzig scoring in the paint and Tori Geriets adding a
free throw, Lincoln raced out to an 8-0 lead to start the game. The
Lady Spartans put up their first points at the 4:44 mark and then it
was time for Lincoln to come back with eight unanswered points and
the 16-2 lead. With under a minute to go in the first quarter,
Froebe nailed a three from the wing, spun around in the lane for a
layup and then her teammate, Piper Whiteman, made a bank shot at the
buzzer to settle the first quarter score at 23-4.
Second Quarter
Jenna Bowman’s three to start the second quarter scoring stretched
the lead to 26-4. Whiteman continued dropping buckets in the paint
and before long Lincoln was up 31-8. Froebe took three separate
trips to the free throw line in less than a minute and extended the
lead to 35-8. The Lady Railers were really quick with their passing
game in the first half and by halftime they had built a 38-10 lead
over the Lady Spartans. Credit to the Lady Spartans for challenging
the Lady Railers on defense too. The game was moving quickly and the
fast pace was just what Lincoln needed.
Third Quarter
There was ample scoring by both teams in the third quarter, with
players from each side hitting threes. Whiteman’s three at the 6:27
mark put Lincoln up 41-12. After a three by the Lady Spartans near
the five minute mark, Lincoln still held a 45-15 lead. Froebe was
fouled shooting a three and she stepped to the free throw to sink
every shot, giving Lincoln a 48-15 lead. Froebe also hit a three as
the three minute mark drew close and this put Lincoln up 54-20.
Seconds later the Lady Spartans did something few teams have done so
far this season: they scored back-to-back baskets against Lincoln.
With the score 54-24, Froebe put up four unanswered points and then
with 28.4 seconds left Grace Schneider tossed in a bucket to make
the score 60-26, closing out the third quarter scoring.
