[April 04, 2023]   In a stunning article in The New York Review of Books Feb. 9 edition, Ian Frazier predicts the total collapse of midsize farming in the Midwest because under current conditions midsize farmers are "too small to compete with mega farms in volume and price and too big to be supported by the farmers' outside income."

He quotes agriculture attorney Sarah Vogel who says that In today's economy midsize farms simply "don't have a prayer."

If our midsize farms and farmers are to survive, the federal government must recognize their importance to the protection of our environment and economy.

[to top of second column]

The federal government must replace current temporary, special payments and provide midsize farmers with both (1) sustainable and effective support programs and (2) legal protection from monopolies such as John Deere, Cargill, Smithfield, Tyson and Bayer.
