It was a big night at Roy S. Anderson on Thursday night with
the seniors taking the home court for the final time in their
careers. A bonus is always a Senior Night win and the boys did just
that by beating Apollo Conference rivals Mahomet-Seymour by a final
score of 41-27.
The ballgame began with a lob pass into Payton Cook for two points
and the Railers were off and running. Ki’on Carson’s two points in
the paint put Lincoln in front 4-2. The Bulldogs would take a 5-4
lead on a three by Finnley Randolph but that would be the visitor's
one and only lead of the game. A three by Cook put the Railers in
front 7-5. Tyler Sasse added his own three quickly after that to
stretch the lead to 10-5. Cook and Carson finished the first quarter
scoring and this gave the Railers a 15-8 first quarter lead.
Let it rain 3s in the second quarter, boys! Aidan Gowin hit the
first three and the lead was quickly 18-8. Trey Schilling hit
back-to-back 3s for the Railers and he made the score 24-13. Carson
would end the second quarter scoring with two points and the Railers
lead was 26-15 at the half.
The Bulldogs put together a run early in the third quarter but the
Railers managed to hold the lead. A layup by Gowin and a drive
through the lane by Cadge Kingsley would be the highlight of the
Railers offense and the third quarter score was set at 30-21.
The fourth quarter featured a handful of free throws by Lincoln and
another layup by Gowin AND a DUNK by COOK! The senior got a huge
applause from the crowd as Kingsley spotted Cook open under the
basket and a quick bounce pass was snatched up by Cook and slammed
home. The bucket was a great way to top off Senior Night and Cook’s
final game on Neil Alexander Court.
The Railers picked up the win by a final score of 41-27.
Payton Cook and Trey Schilling each led the Railers with 9 points.
Schilling also pulled down 5 rebounds in the win.
Lincoln improved to 25-5 overall on the season. The Railers finish
the season 10-2 in the Apollo Conference.
The Railers JV team won 44-31 over the Bulldogs. Parker Graue led
Lincoln with 12 points. Frank Sanders added 10 points.
In between games the following seniors were honored:
