Heartland Community College names Dean of Adult Education

Heartland Community College has named Khrystyna Sanborn as Dean of Adult Education.

The Heartland Adult Education department helps adult students without a high school degree or in need of English language skills to move forward academically.

The Adult Education Dean’s primary responsibilities include program compliance, grant writing, staff supervision and evaluation, program development and class scheduling, as well as addressing student conduct issues.

Sanborn has worked in an administrative role in the HCC Adult Education department since 2015, most recently serving as Associate Dean and Interim Dean. She first joined the College in 2008 as an English as a Second Language Instructor. Sanborn holds a Master of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Kyiv National University.

Most Heartland Adult Education classes are free to students. Programs include GED/High School Equivalency, Functional English as a Second language (FESL), Academic English Language (AELP), and the Complete and Connect Program, which works in partnership with Career Link, a non-profit organization that connects individuals with employment opportunities through training and services.

Last year Heartland also launched the “Level Up” program designed to create a pathway for Adult Education students to work on obtaining their High School Equivalency (GED) or English as a Second Language (ESL) skills while also working towards a certificate in a short-term program. These certificates can lead directly into the workforce or into further academic pursuits. Students can study in fields like digital media, healthcare, business technology, information technology, and industrial technology.
