At the Tuesday, January 3rd voting meeting
of the Lincoln City Council, a request for a structural
improvement grant to Rio Grande Restaurant in the 200
block of North Kickapoo Street was approved by aldermen.
The approval comes with a contingency that the city and
the restaurant owner, Ernesto Leon, enter a lease
agreement for a portion of the city-owned space now
occupied by the Lincoln Welcome Garden.
Leon wants to put side doors on his building, permitting
outdoor dining along the side of the structure. The city
would be responsible for pouring the concrete for an
outdoor dining area and leasing the space to the
restaurant.
