At The Christian Village, responding to the needs of older adults throughout Lincoln and the surrounding community is a hallmark of how we serve as a community partner today and will for generations to come. The Christian Village’s commitment to supporting area older adults is the same now as when we originally opened our doors nearly 62 years ago.

The past several years have been economically difficult for businesses and senior living communities across the U.S., Illinois, and Lincoln, including The Christian Village. All have experienced dramatic expense increases in general operating costs; soaring inflation challenges; and even changes in how and when older adults access skilled nursing services. With an ongoing focus to ensure long-term viability in service to older adults throughout Lincoln and the surrounding community, we have determined that it is no longer feasible to continue operations of the campus’ health center’s three neighborhoods which serve skilled nursing and long-term care. After much discernment and thorough financial analysis, the last day of operations in these three neighborhoods will be September 8, 2023.

While we’ve made the decision to close these skilled nursing neighborhoods, we are also working closely with the state to add new levels of care to the campus to serve older adults throughout the greater Lincoln region. We anticipate sharing news regarding these added levels of care in the next couple of months.

Please note that the independent living and assisted living neighborhoods of The Christian Village remain fully operational and are not affected.

The Christian Village remains committed to serving older adults. Community leaders are working closely with local, state, and federal governing bodies, moving through the appropriate channels of closure communications and processes. Residents, families, responsible parties, and associates were notified of the changes through a series of letters and town hall meetings earlier this week and today, with multiple one-on-one conversations planned by The Christian Village leadership team throughout the coming days. The Christian Village is and will continue to work with all impacted parties, connecting residents and associates with options so they can determine the fit that best meets their personal situation.

Our mission is unchanged — we are a people-centered organization dedicated to residents and associates and focused on serving older adults across the region. We look forward to doing so for many years to come through our independent living and assisted living neighborhoods, and soon additional neighborhoods and care levels.

The Christian Village representatives will have no further comment at this time.
