Atlanta High School Alumni Association dedicate cornerstone of the new Olympia south Gymnasium
Celebrate their annual Alumni Banquet with 122 guests on hand

[May 31, 2023]    The Atlanta High School Alumni Association held a cornerstone dedication at the new Olympia South Gymnasium in Atlanta to commemorate their 100-year anniversary. The dedication was held on Saturday, May 27th at 4:30 p.m.

Those taking part in the dedication were (L to R) Atlanta Mayor Adam McVey, Olympia School District Superintendent Dr. Laura O'Donnell, and Atlanta Alumni Association President – class of 1959 David Kindred.

Following the dedication, Atlanta Alumni had the opportunity to tour the previous gymnasium which was built in 1945.

The annual Alumni Banquet was then held at 6 p.m. in the new gymnasium with 122 alumni in attendance. Alumni attended from Illinois, Tennessee, Texas, Indiana, North Carolina, Florida, Arkansas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio and Michigan.

Guest of honor classes were 1953, 1958, 1963, 1968, 1970, 1971 and 1972.

The following prizes were given:

Most mature alumni - Billie Baldwin Cheek, Class of 1947

Alumni traveling the farthest - from Tampa, FL, Donice Douthit Payne, Class of 1962

Alumni attending the most consecutive banquets - William Horn, Class of 1965.

The 2024 banquet will be held Saturday, May 25th.
