This
notice is to bring awareness to recent amendments to the City of
Lincoln Municipal Code with regards to the use and placement of
informational and advertising signage within in the Right of Way
(ROW). This code also covers structures within the ROW including but
not limited to utility poles traffic signal boxes, traffic signal
post, street light poles and signpost.
8-10-7 Nonconforming Signs.
[1960 Code, Sec. 5. 12. 256]
No sign, not in conformance with Section 8- 10- 2 of this chapter,
shall be placed upon or over City property. All such signs in place
are subject to immediate removal by a city official, regardless of
notice to owner of said sign. The city official will keep the sign
at the Lincoln Municipal Services Building for a period of 30 days
before disposing of it. Temporary signs placed in front of a
business shall not be a violation of any portion of this ordinance,
so long as they do not cause a safety hazard and are only on display
during normal business hours.

We would ask that you remove all
signage from the public ROW pertaining to your business, event
etc. With permission from the owner, signage may be placed on
private property. Typically, the ROW is the area between the
street and the backside/private property side of the sidewalk,
in case of discrepancies (lack of sidewalk) a call to our office
can help locate appropriate locations. There are relaxations and
allowances for Special Occasion Permits, on a case-by-case
basis, and information regarding this can be obtained by
calling.
