Church
outreach is a common practice for spreading God’s Word and sharing
His love with a community with a goal of changing lives.
During an outreach brainstorming meeting of church elders, Chuck
McFadden and Ben Rowland (both with daughters of their own)
volunteered to co-chair a Father/Daughter dance. While a
Father/Daughter dance is typically associated with wedding
receptions when the bride and her father take to the dance floor,
this dance was for girls of all ages to attend with their beloved
escort for a night of fellowship. Young ladies attended the dance
with fathers, brothers, uncles, and grandfathers. One grandfather
traveled from Florida to attend with his granddaughter. He said, “I
would not have missed it.”
The first year, about 300 people attended the dance.
This year 400 tickets were printed and on Friday night, March 10th
all tickets were sold. McFadden said that any money raised this year
will go towards next year’s event. The Father/Daughter dance will be
held in early March each year, though a particular weekend has not
been established at this time.
McFadden and Rowland have a dedicated committee that helps them plan
for months for the big night.

The theme of this year’s dance
was “Butterfly Kisses” with decorations and lighting to
exemplify the theme.
This year Adrien McFadden sold
tickets at the door. Devin Vannoy helped with music and lights,
while Suzanne Gowin taught some dance moves. Professional
photographers, Michael Gowin and James Coop, with the help of Marci
D’Andrea and Diane Coop, volunteered their time to take pictures of
the beautifully dressed girls and their escorts.
Maura Gowin dressed as Cinderella, helped guide the
crowd to the different stations, including picture taking, crafts,
and snacks.
A group of volunteers in the kitchen helped keep the food and drink
station running smoothly.
