For
the last several years, the Lincoln Police Department has been a
collection site for unused prescription medications. In 2018, a
24-hour collection drop-box was installed in front of the Police
Department for convenience. The drop-box has frequently been
improperly filled with prohibited and hazardous items exposing our
staff to undue risk of exposure. Because of this, the drop-box has
been permanently removed for safety reasons.
The Lincoln Police Department will still accept unused prescriptions
for disposal if submitted properly. To submit unused prescriptions
to the Lincoln Police Department for disposal, pills must be removed
from their original packaging and placed in a clear, sealed zipper
type storage bag and brought to the lobby of the Lincoln Police
Department at 710 5th Street. An employee will accept only properly
packaged prescriptions for disposal.
