“Stronger Together” has been the anthem of the 2023 Lady Railers soccer team all season long and on Monday night they showed the power of what that simple motto can do. The girls and their families, along with the coaching staff and fans, came together to flex their muscles and open their pocketbooks for little Mikah Martin of Lake Fork.

Mikah even got to pose with the soccer seniors on their special night.

By the end of the night, it was announced the soccer team had raised $5,281 for the Martin family. The money was raised via gift baskets, raffle prizes, gate receipts, a pulled pork dinner by Nuthatch Hill BBQ and the big money was donated through the “Pie in your Face” contest. Those lucky recipients getting a pie in the face (in reality it was a plate full of whipped cream) were players Hattie Mourning, Grace Curry, Imagin Werner, Jessie Emberton, Peyton Merreighn, head coach Beth Rayman, and assistant coach Todd Mourning. How did Donnie Bowman escape this?!

Five-year old Mikah is battling B cell leukemia and is currently starting the fifth of six treatments. He was in attendance at the soccer game on Monday night with his mom Kim (Oglesby) Martin, dad Jesse Martin and his brand new baby sister, Julieanne Joy.

Mikah also has two brothers, Lukas and Noah. Kim works in the Lincoln Hospital Emergency Room as a mid-level provider for MidAmerica Emergency Services.

Linda Mourning also presented Mikah with a cozy Lady Railers soccer blanket as he sat on the track watching the “Pie in your Face” contest. He was all smiles during this event and it’s evident he’s a little boy just busting with energy.

At the end of the night, Todd Mourning told Mikah that the team looks forward to seeing him next season at the last home game when he can give them an update on how he is doing. By next season, his mom will have a hard time keeping him off the soccer field. He’ll want to play!

Kick your heels up for this soccer team!

Way to show the Martin family and the community that you are “Stronger Together!”
