Judging the cakes was Tami Thomas, who went Culinary
Institute of America and has worked in the baking industry. She made
comments on the taste and appearance of each cake then wrote down
the total scores.
Top four winners Rose Harrold, Shannon Carter, Alex
Bergin and Jeanne Runyon.
Along with many veterans in the cake classic were new competitors
Shannon Carter, Tracy Bergin and Alex Bergin.
Cake Classic superintendent Samantha Danosky is
thankful for the sponsors such as McEntire’s Appliance, Darlene
Begolka and Samsational Sweets who make the cake classic possible.
There were eight cakes auctioned off by Ty Tucker, which raised
$4300. This amount will go directly to Logan County 4-H to support
their programs.
At $675, Darci Culler was top bidder for the first
place cake. Culler also donated a basket for the winner.
First place: Rose Harold- first place German
Chocolate cake. Harrold is a veteran of the cake classic.
Second Place: new participant Alex Bergin-Angel Food
Cake. Though it was Alex Bergin’s first time in the cake classic, he
is no stranger to baking.
The top bidder for the second place cake was Matthew
Xamis at $600. As Xamis has done for several years, he then donated
the cake back to be auctioned again. This time Stacy Goodman won the
bidding at $500.
Third place: new participant Shannon Carter-
Chocolate Cake with chocolate frosting. Though it was Shannon
Carter’s first time competing, her mother-in-law Carlene Carter
competed many times over the years.
Top bidder was Jackson of Action Jackson Lawn Care at
$225.

Fourth Place: Jeanne Runyon-Red Velvet Cake. Runyon
has competed for many years.
Top bidder was Marvin Bartman at $500.
Other classic cakes auctioned off included:
Fifth place: Tracy Bergin - Chocolate tweed cake.
Tracy Bergin decided to compete for the first time this year.
Top bidder was the Stanfield family at $325.
Sixth Place: Dana Oltmanns-Butter cake with white
frosting. Oltmanns has competed several times and won first place in
recent years.
Top bidder was Richard Martin at $ 600.
Seventh Place: Mary Johnson-Banana Chiffon Cake.
Johnson is another veteran competitor who has won first place in the
past.
Top bidder was Jackson Johnson at $300.
Eighth Place: Carlene Carter-Yellow Cake with
chocolate frosting. Carter is a veteran who has not participated in
the cake classic for a few years.
Top bidder was Rod Conklin at $575.
Once the auction was over, those who baked cakes
posed with their top bidder and Logan County Fair Queen Abby Arnold,
Junior Miss Sophia Goodman and Little Miss Olivia Harmsen.
As the grand total of $4300 demonstrates, these bidders love to
support a great cause and also get to enjoy a delicious cake.
