The Lincoln Police Department is launching a new program to assist Officers with investigations. Due to the popularity of residential security cameras, many recent investigations have been solved with the help of footage from ring style doorbells and other exterior cameras.

When attempting to identify a suspect, or complete an investigation, LPD officers often canvass an area attempting to locate any cameras and request footage from residents who live in the area a crime has occurred.

For residents who wish to participate, you may now register your camera(s) with the Police Department. This will allow the department to build an interactive map, showing the location of citizen owned cameras throughout the City of Lincoln. Having this information will allow investigators to quickly locate cameras that may have valuable evidence and contact the camera owner to request permission to review footage.

It IS important to know that a participant's privacy will always be respected. Officers will not have access to your cameras, they will just know that they exist without having to walk the streets and alleys looking for them.

The camera registration form is available on the city website, Lincolnil.gov, under the Departments page. Click on the Police Department, then navigate to “Safety” under the information section. The form will be located in the section with red colored font. For those who prefer not to use the internet, the form may also be obtained at the Lincoln Police Station, 710 5th Street. Registration forms will also be accepted in person or by mail.
