It was a hot and cold shooting night between the Lady Railers
and the Metamora Redbirds on Wednesday in Metamora. Unfortunately
for Lincoln, it was Metamora getting hot late in the second half and
running away with a 46-35 win.
The Lady Railers held a 15-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Lincoln surrendered that lead in the second quarter and the Redbirds
jumped in front 21-19 at the half.
Lincoln managed to reach a 26-26 tie after a basket by Lily Holmes
in the third quarter. However, with the three-point basket falling
freely for Metamora the Redbirds went on top 32-27 as the third
quarter ended.
The three-ball continued to keep the net dancing in the fourth
quarter, with both teams sinking them. Mesa McCloud’s back-to-back
threes were a little too late to do significant damage as the Lady
Railers had already dug themselves into a 42-27 hole. That 10-0 run
by the Redbirds to start the fourth quarter was a real bummer.
McCloud slashed the lead to 42-33 after her two 3s but time would
run out for Lincoln and the 46-35 win by Metamora was inevitable.
[to top of second column] |
Lily Holmes led Lincoln with 13 points and Mia Clark hit
double-figures with 12 points.
Lincoln falls to 2-4 on the season.
Lincoln will play Jacksonville on Saturday at 3:00 p.m at Lincoln
Land Community College.
In the JV game Metamora defeated Lincoln 38-33.
