Another game.

Another win.

An undefeated record atop the Central State Eight Conference for the Lady Railers!

On Saturday afternoon the Lady Railers improved to 19-0 overall on the season with a 54-20 victory over the Glenwood Titans in Chatham.

Lincoln is in sole possession of first place in the CS8 conference with a 7-0 record.

Another game in which Kloe Froebe outscored the opponent. This time she dropped 31 points on the Titans.

It's a great time to be a Lady Railer and to be a Lady Railer fan!

First Quarter

The Titans seemed very excited to take on the Lady Railers with a great crowd on hand and cheerleaders that kept the energy level up. Glenwood, with two freshmen in the starting lineup, even took several leads over the Lady Railers in the first quarter. First, it was Ava Bobb with the bucket to put the Titans up 2-0. After the Titans went up 4-0, Tori Geriets put Lincoln in the scoring column with a bucket in the lane off the assist from Kloe Froebe. At the 5:25 mark, Froebe tied the game 4-4 but after another quick bucket by the Titans, they regained the lead. Leave it to Froebe to tie things up again, 6-6 the score. Again, Glenwood took an 8-6 lead and this time Coach Taylor Rohrer called a timeout. Becca Heitzig tied the game 8-8 with a little soft jumper from about fifteen feet near the three minute mark. Once again, Glenwood came right back quickly with a field goal, regaining a 10-8 lead. Not much to worry about in the grand scheme of things, as the Titans would not score again until the third quarter. Froebe’s free throws would put Lincoln back on top and after Heitzig’s jumper extended the lead, the Lady Railers were up 13-10. Froebe snuck in one more basket off the offensive rebound and the quarter ended with Lincoln up 15-10.

Second Quarter

Nothing but goose eggs for the Titans in the second quarter. Meanwhile, Lincoln’s shooting was more off than on, but the Lady Railers did manage to have some highlights. One being by Piper Whiteman. She managed to catch a rebound in the lane from the miss by Froebe and put it back up for two points. The other being a pretty common move by Froebe, but a highlight nonetheless here. A steal at half-court by no. 5 started the reel and then she proceeded to drive towards the lane and dodge the traffic in her way and drop in two points and get fouled. Once Froebe’s ‘and one’ was complete the second quarter score was settled at 26-10. Backing up in the quarter scoring, Whiteman also hit a couple free throws, Heitzig tossed in an offensive rebound for two points and Froebe also added an earlier drive in the lane good for two more points. Nothing that would make SportsCenter’s Top Ten but definitely a positive note holding the other team scoreless.

Third Quarter

Now the third quarter would end with a highlight but just hang on. A minute into the quarter the Titans broke their scoreless streak, but they still had no chance. They had already dug themselves into a deep hole and they were not about to see daylight as long as Froebe had anything to say about it. Froebe’s six points drove the Lady Railers out to a 32-13 lead. After Whiteman finally made the first three of the game for Lincoln just under the two minute mark, the Lady Railers went up 35-17. Froebe made it a 20-point lead after a couple free throws. With 9.7 seconds left in the quarter, Froebe was fouled shooting a three and once again made a quick trip to the line.

[to top of second column]

This time she made 2-of-3 and with the Titans regaining possession it looked like that would be the end of the Lincoln offense in the third quarter. Not so fast. The Titans were caught traveling and turned the ball over to Lincoln for the final 4.5 seconds. Highlight time. Heitzig inbounded the ball to Froebe and she quickly dribbled towards the wing and immediately took a step back off the defender and drained a three at the buzzer. It looked so pretty going through the air and for just the second time in the game for Lincoln, the shot really looked like it was going in. Froebe’s buzzer-beater gave the Lady Railers a 42-17 lead and it was indeed a great highlight.

Fourth Quarter

Fans would have to wait patiently for a running clock in the fourth quarter. With the Titans sinking a three early the score was 42-20 and that actually was the last successful bucket for Glenwood in the game. Froebe added four more points, all on free throws, to end her afternoon with 31 points. Jenna Bowman banked in a three, whew, at the 3:45 mark and Lincoln was edging closer to letting that clock run. After Taryn Stoltzenburg’s basket to set the score at 51-20 the clock showed 2:45 and it was ready to run. A minute later Heitzig showed her range with a corner three and that was pretty much it. Time ran out with nothing else to brag about other than the Lady Railers 54-20 win.

The JV team is worth bragging about as well.

Lincoln’s JV team improved to 13-0 with a dominating 60-20 win over Glenwood.

A trio of athletes hit double-figures for Lincoln: Mia Clark (18), Piper Whiteman (13) and Makinley Knapp (12).

Lincoln will play at Normal Community on Tuesday night. The JV will tip-off at 6:00 p.m. and the Varsity will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.

Normal Community (18-1) is ranked no. 4 in the Class 4A AP poll so this will be a great game to see. Consider making the short drive north on Interstate 55 and you won’t regret it!
