It’s been a busy few weeks for Lincoln Speedway, in Lincoln, IL, coming off events on June 23, July 5, and July 8. Speedway officials and drivers are now set for yet another event this coming Friday, July 12, as five divisions of racing excitement will entertain fans on the final night of racing before a month-long break for the Logan County Fair.

It’s been a strong run of events for the track, which got off to a slow start earlier this season with Mother Nature wreaking havoc. The last three events have seen great racing and solid car counts. On top of that, the turnout this past Monday for the Graue Chevrolet Showdown was outstanding, with fans filling the grandstands to see some of the best Super Late Model drivers in the country.

This coming Friday night’s event will have 305 Sprint cars on track for their second and final time this season. The Sprints typically put on a good show and everyone will be aiming to beat Aaron Andruskevitch, of Riverton, IL, who claimed the last two wins at the track in the division. John Barnard was a close second at the May 17 race, while Evan Turner, Kyle Barker, and Joe Jiannoni finished in the top five.

The DIRTcar Pro Late Models are back at it this coming Friday night. Taylorville, IL driver, Braden Johnson, will be looking to win his second race in-a-row, after claiming the “W” last Friday. Johnson currently leads the points, looking to win his second straight championship at the speedway. Blaise Baker, Brandon Sweitzer, Tristan Coleman, and Dakota Ewing complete the top five in points.

The DIRTcar Modifieds have had good fields at each of the events this season and racing has been solid, as to be expected. Peoria, IL driver, Mike Brooks, is currently atop the standings by 14 over Edinburg, IL’s Jared Thomas. Brooks hasn’t claimed a feature win yet but is knocking on the door each and every week with consistent finishes. Expect Friday’s feature to be another good one.

The MARA Midgets continue to have strong fields, with 25 entries at each of the last two events. Dating back to last year, the series has had nine events at Lincoln Speedway with the car count growing along the way. The competitors are coming off a rough one last Friday, which has been a rare occurrence as the racing has been outstanding in the other eight events. Heading into Friday, Mark McMahill leads the standings over Jace Sparks, RJ Corson, Parker Jones, and last week’s winner, Daltyn England.

Rounding out Friday’s card will be the DIRTcar Sportsman. Guy Taylor, from Springfield, IL, claimed the Sportsman win at the June 7 event, while Tommy Duncan, Wes O’Dell, Jim Farley, III, and Barry Bell completed the top five. The Sportsman have Friday’s event as well as August 23 remaining on their Lincoln schedule this year.

The first 100 kids into the grandstands will receive a free checkered flag this Friday night.

Pits open at 4:00, grandstands at 5:00, hotlaps are at 6:00, and racing is at 7:00 PM. Grandstand admission is $15, while kids 11 and under are free.
