Today, the Pink Shirt picture for
LDN’s Paint the Paper Pink month comes from the
staff at Community Action Partnership of Central
Illinois. There are 13 people in the picture with
eight being women and five being men.
The number eight is significant because according to
statistics gathered by the American Cancer Society
one out of every eight women will be diagnosed with
some form and stage of breast cancer this year.
The good news is that mortality rates for breast
cancer warriors is falling. Today fewer women die of
breast cancer, and it is because in large part of
the awareness for early detection that is a big part
of the ACS’s everyday work. Early diagnosis greatly
improves the chances of survival so be aware of
changes in your body, do self-exams, and schedule
those mammograms.
