The Saturday pink shirt picture in Lincoln Daily News features Lucky at Beverage Genie Beer, Wine and Spirits in Lincoln.

For this photo the “magic” word we will draw on is Genie. The word brings to mind for some of us old timers “I dream of Jeanie (the Genie)” and for some of us younger ones “Aladdin.” In both cases, there was magic that came from the primary character in the story line and a lesson to learn about making wishes.

In most cases there are three wishes involved. So for breast cancer awareness month if we could have three wishes they would be first, that those who are survivors would live long, happy, cancer-free lives, secondly for those that are warriors, that they would win the battle and become cancer-free, and finally for those that are working to find cures and preventions for cancers of all types, that they would be wildly successful and this diabolical disease would be annihilated forever.

On Thursday a new billboard-like structure was erected against the north wall of the Rio Grande Restaurant in Lincoln. According to Lincoln Mayor Tracy Welch, this is the structure that will hold the new Route 66 themed mural commissioned by the city.

Welch said the original plan was to mount the mural directly onto the building, but structural studies of the building indicated that it would be preferable to have the mural mounted on a semi stand alone framework. Therefore, the top of the two vertical posts are attached to the wall and all the rest is free-standing.

Welch said that the date the mural will be mounted has not yet been determined, but hopefully soon.
