The
recent snap of cold air reminds us that the Christmas season is fast
approaching and with it comes the return of the ever-popular
Christmas Candlelight Services on Elkhart Hill. The Elkhart
Historical Society will host this year’s Christmas Candlelight
Service with four performances on Saturday, December 7, and one
afternoon performance on Sunday, December 8, at the St. John the
Baptist Chapel located on Elkhart Hill. Each year’s Candlelight
Service brings a new and fresh presentation, resulting in sell-out
performances consisting of beautiful segments of music and
inspirational script. Saturday performances are at 2 p.m., 4 p.m.,
5:30 p.m., and 8:00 p.m. Sunday’s matinee is at 2 p.m.
Titled “The Eras of Christmas,” this year’s performance includes the
musical talents of “Wild Columbine,” a folk-music ensemble, along
with story-telling dialog, all developing the theme of “The Eras of
Christmas.” Candlelight, luminaria, and Christmas greens will
transform the beautiful stone chapel into a lovely setting for
debuting the 2024 Christmas Season. Reservations will be opened to
the public starting October 28th for members and November 4th for
non-members, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Any extra time between services
can always be spent exploring the quaint shops in the business
district of Elkhart; and be sure to visit on November 23 between
9 a.m.-5 p.m. for our annual Elkhart Village Christmas Open
House, where special gifts, tasty treats, and warm drinks are
offered.
The Elkhart Historical Society membership information is also
included, as our dues for the 2025 year are now due and timed
perfectly with the release of the 2025 calendar. A regular
family or single membership is $25 and a Senior Citizen family
or single is $20. A calendar without membership is $25. A free
calendar is given with each new or renewed membership. Please
consider joining, if you are not already a member, as many new
events are in the pipeline for 2025, and with it many new ways
to enjoy Elkhart and its history.

We will unfortunately not be coordinating meals this year but
encourage you to contact your favorite restaurants in Elkhart,
Williamsville or Lincoln. We recommend you make reservations for
a time that will ensure you arrive at your service on time so as
not to disturb the experience of others. Whenever possible, try
to eat following your service so your experience is more
relaxed.
