Railer boys basketball team beats
Glenwood 26-16
[December 13, 2025]
CHATHAM -- Games between the Railer boys basketball team and
Glenwood traditionally been low-scoring contests, and Friday’s was
no exception. When the final buzzer sounded, LCHS had only 26 points
on the ledger, but the stingy Railer defense held Glenwood to just
16 points in posting the Railers’ second Central State 8 Conference
victory.
Both teams patiently worked the ball around the perimeter, looking
for an opening in the opponent’s defensive alignment. Brody Tungate
hit the second of two free throws at the 4:42 mark of the opening
period to stake Lincoln to a 1-0 lead.
Glenwood answered a couple minutes later when Brody Green drove the
baseline and scored for Glenwood.

Tungate hit another free throw, so the score was knotted at 2-2 as
time wound down in the first quarter. As time was running down in
the opening frame, Green launched a shot attempt that missed, but
Hugo Lopp snared the rebound, spun the ball off the backboard and
hit the shot to give the Titans a 4-2 lead heading into the second
quarter.

Tate Aue
The scoring picked up in the second quarter, as the Railers reeled
off eight straight points as Tate Aue hit consecutive three-pointers
before Tungate scored a field goal to give Lincoln a 10-4 lead.
The Titans, however, went on a 5-0 run to end the first half, making
the score 10-9 at intermission in favor of Lincoln.

Karson Komnick
The Railers went on another scoring streak to open the second half.
Tungate hit a field goal before Karson Komnick made a
three-pointer—the first points of the game for the Railers’ leading
scorer--and a field goal as Lincoln surged ahead 17-9.

But Glenwood answered back, getting a field goal from Lopp to cut
the Railer lead to six. Then, following a loose ball of several
seconds which saw multiple players for both squads diving to the
court to try attaining possession, an apparent missed backcourt call
benefited Glenwood as the Titans were awarded a timeout when it
appeared they had committed an over-and-back infraction. Glenwood
made it count, as Cohen Reid hit a trey to conclude the third
quarter scoring and make the score 17-14.
Railer Bryce Vlahovich hit a three-pointer to begin the final
quarter and extend Lincoln’s lead to 20-14. Glenwood followed with
another field goal by Lopp, but it was all Lincoln the rest of the
way. The Railers got a field goal from Tungate and scored the final
four points on free throws from Breon McKinnie (one) and Komnick
(three) to give Lincoln a 26-16 Central State 8 Conference win.
Railer head coach Neil Alexander said the low scores of most games
Lincoln plays against Glenwood is indicative of how closely matched
the squads are.
“It was two teams that are almost identical,” he said. “The only
difference is they play man-to-man [defense] and we play our zone.
Both teams are very patient, looking for their type of shot. I
thought they had a hard time finding a shot; I thought we had a hard
time finding a shot. We let it fly when we were open; we didn’t hold
back in taking open opportunities. We just hit a couple big ones and
we opened up a six- or seven-point lead and were able to hang on.”
Tungate and Komnick led Lincoln in scoring with eight points each.
Tate Aue added six points, Vlahovich sank a trey for three points,
and Breon McKinnie had one point.

Glenwood was led by Lopp with six points.
The victory improves the Railers’ overall record to 5-2 as well as
2-1 in CS8 play. Lincoln’s next scheduled game is December 13
against Belleville West in a makeup title game of the Eaton
Thanksgiving Tournament. If the weather forecasts are accurate,
inclement weather could impact whether the game is played or not. If
the weather or forecast is bad, Alexander said the LCHS
administration would speak with personnel from Belleville West in
the morning and decide if the game will be played. Interested
persons should follow local media outlets or the Railer basketball
team Facebook page for updates.
A JV game will be played in addition to the varsity contest against
Belleville West. The JV game is slated to begin at 5 PM with the
Eaton Tournament Championship game scheduled for 6:30 PM.
