Lady Railers defeat Newman Central
Catholic 61-27

The Lady Railers defeated Newman Central Catholic 61-27 on
Saturday afternoon in the Dixon-KSB Holiday Classic.
Mia Clark led the Lady Railers with 14 points.
First quarter
Clark scored the first two 3s of the game for Lincoln but thanks to
three consecutive 3s to start the game for Newman, the Lady Railers
found themselves down early. Lincoln battled back to take an 11-10
lead after Clark’s two-point field goal. Paisley Holmes and Grace
Bivin poured in Lincoln’s final four points in the first quarter to
give Lincoln a 14-10 lead.
Second quarter
Mesa McCloud started Lincoln off in the second quarter with
back-to-back 3s and the lead was quickly 20-10. Clark and Bivin
padded the lead with buckets and before Newman even scored Lincoln
was on top 25-10. Lincoln would continue to dominate the second
quarter and the Lady Railers held a steady 27-16 lead at the half.
Third quarter
Grace Schneider was quick to score the first basket in the third
quarter and the rest of the Lady Railers followed suit. The Holmes
sisters, Bivin, Clark and Emma Hutchison all contributed points to
drive the lead to 42-19. Newman managed just one three-pointer early
in the quarter.

Fourth quarter
The Gilbert girls, Grey and Sage, started the scoring for Lincoln in
the final quarter. Sage Gilbert would actually score on two free
throws, a three-pointer and a layup, following a steal, that ignited
the running clock. Lincoln’s lead was 57-27 with just over two
minutes to play. Elizabeth Chen also came off the bench and she did
not hesitate to contribute to the offense. Chen tossed in six
points. Lily and Paisley Holmes also tossed in baskets in the
quarter and Lincoln had no trouble running the clock out, getting
the 61-27 win as a result
The Lady Railers improved to 10-4 on the season and will play Monday
at 3:30 p.m. against Burlington Central for the Silver Bracket
Championship.
