Murphy hits game-winner as Mount Pulaski Lady Toppers remain undefeated

[December 30, 2025]  Alyson Murphy hit the game-winning shot on Monday night as the Mount Pulaski Lady Toppers defeated Litchfield 55-53 in the 2025 Riverton Christmas Classic.

Murphy’s three right in front of the Lady Toppers bench with 7.2 seconds remaining in the game lifted Mount Pulaski to the 55-53 win.

Murphy was the leading scorer on the night with 34 points.

The Lady Toppers remain undefeated this season with 12 straight wins to start the season.

“12-0 is a heckuva start,” said Mount Pulaski coach Ryan McVickers. “Litchfield came out ready to play and they were very prepared. I give them a ton of credit. We went up by seven to nine points a few times in the second half and they just wouldn’t go away. When they took the lead late, our girls did not panic. All our girls executed the play perfectly at the end and Alyson hit a huge shot! Good teams find a way to win and that’s what we did tonight.”

The two teams were tied 11-11 after the first quarter and by halftime Mount Pulaski was on top 22-19, with Murphy draining two 3s.

Murphy helped the Lady Toppers take a 41-35 lead in the third quarter. She poured in 13 points that included three 3s. Audrey Cooper and Ella Martin each contributed three points in the third quarter.

Murphy paced the Lady Toppers with eight more points in the fourth quarter. Litchfield took over the lead late in the game and Murphy spoiled their fun with her game-winning shot. Murphy put Mount Pulaski up for good 55-53.
