LDN Production and Content Manager Jeff Wyles drew the third quarter of the year for his top pics from 2024.

“There is nothing specific about why I chose these photos as my top 10,” Jeff said. “I could have probably picked 50. These photos made me smile and reminded me of the beauty of living in this community of small towns and incredible people.”

Jeff’s simple statement personifies the mission of Lincoln Daily News, to show the good in our people and the heart in our community.

July 5, 2024 - Patriotic Evening....

07/12/2024 - On July 8th, young 4-H members from Menard, Logan and Sangamon counties enjoyed a day at the Menard County Extension Office participating in the “4-H Surviving a Zombie Apocalypse” disaster preparedness funshop.

07/13/2024 - Betty Moser (right) has been judging 4-H Floriculture projects for 50 years. This week on Monday she was feeling right at home at the Logan County Fairground with a little extra help from her daughter Judy. The two interacted with 4-hers who were showing their cut flowers, floral arrangements and potted plants with plenty of praise and lots of smiles.

08/02/2024 - On Tuesday morning, local children were out and about early at the Logan County Fair as they anxiously arrived at the Knights of Columbus pavilion for the annual Farm Bureau Young Farmers Kiddie Tractor Pull.

08/06/2024 - The sun has gone down on the eighty-eighth Logan County Fair. While there were a couple of weather related cancellations, it was still a great week with plenty to do for any visitor.

And, even though it is now officially over, Lincoln Daily News will continue providing coverage from various fair events for the next couple of days, so be sure to check back in. As of today, all the coverage through Friday is posted. Coming soon will be many events from Saturday and Sunday including the Diamond Rio Concert, Chili cook off, Annual Talent Contest, Cake Classic, 4-H Auction and the Demolition Derby.

08/17/2024 - Nick Beckteshi, his wife Lumi and their family stand at the base of the new Lumi the Pie Girl at the Country Aire Restaurant in Atlanta. The Pie Girl is a 19-feet tall original creation that honors its namesake Lumi who is a 2009 State Fair winner for her fresh made pies.

The Beckteshi’s decided to jump on the band wagon with Atlanta quickly becoming the land of the giants and install the Pie Girl to draw attention to the popular Atlanta restaurant.

08/23/2024 - Are you ready for the weekend? Starting today, the Balloons Over 66 Weekend will mean lots of activity in and around Lincoln. At Open Arms this evening 34 balloons will lift off for the Hare & Hound Race, which is a new ballooning event this year.

Downtown, BBQ competitors will begin working on their submissions for Saturday judging, dogs will be jumping in a large pool of water as Dock Dogs returns, there will be food vendors and live music.

There is an art fair in front of the Lincoln Arts Institute, and the buck a bag sale at the Lincoln Public Library.

And, as you walk about downtown, be sure to look down from time to time as there is once again this year chalk art on the sidewalks in the heart of the city.

09/11/2024 - This year, the Logan County Young Conservatives chose to place their flags of remembrance on the lawn of the Atlanta Public Library. The flags that represent the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, during the horrible attack on the United States by terrorists, make for a solemn and moving sight as the number fills the lawn from edge to edge.

This is the 23rd anniversary of that terrible day in American history and it is the goal of the group to assure that here at home, we not ever forget the sacrifice of life on the Eastern side of our country.

We cried, we thanked God that we were here in the Midwest, we prayed that no trouble would come to our community and that those we knew and loved serving in the fight for our freedom would survive and prevail in the days ahead.

May we all, without bias, stand with this group and proclaim we will not forget.

09/16/2024 - On Saturday at the Mt. Pulaski Fall Festival one of the big attractions was the soap box derby held on South Washington Street. The heart of the town sits on a hill, and makes for the perfect setting for a downhill race that is based mostly on momentum.

Several soap box cars were on hand to participate in the event that drew a lot of attention from spectators as well.

LDN has coverage of a number of Mt. Pulaski Fall Festival events in today’s edition and will have additional coverage on Tuesday, along with coverage of the Atlanta Fall Festival.

09/20/2024 - Over this past weekend the Village of New Holland was the setting for the annual New Holland Antique Tractor Show and parade.

Participants were down a bit this year, but the excitement, especially for the kids who visited was as high as ever. Kids enjoyed sitting in the seat of each tractor and pretending they were farmers from a past era.
