New Book Traces the History of Middletown, Illinois, and Connections to Abraham Lincoln Local Author Greg Laun’s Book is Available at Ink & Imprint Books

[July 09, 2025]  LINCOLN, ILLINOIS — Local author Greg Laun’s recent publication is the first in a series titled “Road to Fort Clark.” This historically accurate story is set in the 1830s at the Village of Middletown, Illinois. Laun’s research reveals the unique and never known connection of Middletown with New Salem. Abraham Lincoln’s association with Middletown during his years at New Salem is mentioned, as are his years as a circuit lawyer riding through Middletown.

The concept of the book revolves around five adventurers involved in a deed signing, one of whom is Abraham Lincoln. Other aspects of the story include survival on the Illinois frontier; early transportation; and the first villages, post offices and newspapers.

The development of the stagecoach industry brought about the creation of many of the earliest settlements. The Dunlap Inn, which was built in 1837, is highlighted in the story.
