Senator Sally Turner Reacts to FY26 Budget

[June 02, 2025]  Springfield, IL— State Senator Sally Turner (R-Beason) issued the following statement after Democrat lawmakers passed a $55 billion budget that includes around $1 billion in new taxes:

"There are parts of this budget that I appreciate, including the funding of the Regional Site Readiness Program that will help address the long-abandoned Lincoln Developmental Center site, which I have been fighting to revitalize for years. However, the overall package is not something I can support.

“This is the largest spending plan in state history, yet it fails to deliver real relief for working families. Instead, it adds around a billion dollars in new taxes while leaving behind the very people who need help the most, including those depending on community-based care.

“Budgets reflect priorities. And despite a record price tag, this one makes it clear that too many Illinois families remain an afterthought.”
