Senator Sally Turner Opposes
Statewide Delivery Tax for Chicago Transit
[June 02, 2025]
Springfield, IL— State Senator
Sally Turner (R-Beason) issued the following statement after the
Illinois Senate passed House Bill 3438, which creates a new $1.50
statewide delivery tax to help fund a bailout for Chicago’s transit
system:
“This bill asks families in every corner of Illinois to pay more to
bail out a transit system they don’t use. Under this plan, you’ll be
charged $1.50 for almost every package delivered to your home.
“In today’s world, delivery isn’t a luxury; it’s how many of us get
what we need, especially in rural areas where shopping options are
limited. This new tax unfairly targets working families, seniors,
and rural residents.

“I cannot support
placing yet another burden on the people I represent just to
fund a system that doesn’t serve them. This plan is out of touch
with the needs and realities of everyday Illinoisans.”
