PaintCare paint recycling program drop-off starting December 1

Starting December 1, Sherwin
Williams in Lincoln will be a local drop-off site for PaintCare’s
paint recycling program.
For this paint recycling program, their brochure says, “paint
companies created PaintCare, a nonprofit organization, to provide
convenient places for households and businesses to recycle leftover
paint. PaintCare sets up paint drop-off sites. throughout states
that pass paint stewardship laws.”
PaintCare products “have a fee when you buy them and are accepted
for drop-off at no additional cost.” These products include
“interior and exterior architectural paints, latex, acrylic,
water-based, alkyd, oil-based, enamel (including textured coating”),
deck coatings, floor paints (including elastomeric), primers,
sealers, undercoaters, stains, shellacs, lacquers, varnishes,
urethanes (single component), waterproofing concrete/masonry/woodsealers
and repellents (not tar or bitumen-based), metal coatings, rust
preventatives, field and lawn paints.”
Non PaintCare products that will not be accepted include “paint
thinners, mineral spirits, solvents, aerosol coatings, auto and
marine paints, art and craft paints, caulk, epoxies, glues,
adhesives, paint additives, colorants, tints, resins, wood
preservatives (containing pesticides), roof patch and repair,
asphalt, tar and bitumen-based products, 2-component coatings, deck
cleaners, traffic and road marking paints, industrial maintenance
(IM) coatings and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) (shop
application) paints and finishes.”

A PaintCare fee is applied
to the purchase price of architectural paint as required by law.
The fee funds collection, transportation and processing costs.
Fees are based on container sizes as follows: $0.45 for
containers large than half pint up to smaller than one gallon,
$0.95 for containers between one and two gallons and $1.95 for
containers larger than two gallons up to five gallons. There is
no added fee for containers that are half pint or smaller.
