The Thursday photos for the Lincoln Daily News Paint the Paper Pink campaign feature in one shot the staff of St. Clara’s Rehab and Senior Care, the second is the residents of the same senior care facility along with some of the staff.

We want to draw your attention to the resident photo most of all because this is a collection of wonderful men and women who have endured the challenges of life and are still with us today. We celebrate them for their endurance and tenacity.

We also want to draw attention to those in our community who have endured the challenges of breast cancer and are still with us today. We salute those brave warriors who have fought and come out on the other side of this terrible disease victors.

The American Cancer Society is working diligently to assure that with each passing day there will be more and more people who are able to say they have fought and won, not just breast cancer but all forms of cancer. That is why the ASC contributed $450,000,000 in 2024 for cancer research.

The research funded by the ACS in past years has contributed to many successes, including the testing for BRCA2, the gene that can indicate the higher risk of breast cancer in individuals with family history.

The ASC is also currently working with the FDA to get approval on a one-in-all blood test that will identify the probability of breast, colon, and cervical cancers. This will aid in early detection of those cancers, and early detection has been proven to be key in survivorship of the disease.
