Stags reach another 30 win season
[October 24, 2025]
The Hartsburg-Emden Stags defeated Class 3A Mattoon on
Thursday night, improving their record to 30-5. It’s the third
consecutive season the Stags have reached the 30-win mark.
The Stags were playing in Mattoon since the Hartsburg gymnasium was
taken for a girls basketball game between Chester East-Lincoln and
Mount Pulaski. Two Hartsburg girls, Lila Cross and Harper Whitted,
play on the CEL team.
On the volleyball court, Lila’s older sister, Celia Cross, added 19
more assists to her already record-breaking season. Thursday night’s
count brings her total to 3,087 assists with the postseason getting
underway next week.
The Stags Varsity team broke a 17-17 tie in set one to win 25-18.
Set two was a little quicker, with the Stags winning 25-12.
Alayna Briggs led the Stags with 11 kills.
The Stags JV team lost 16-25 and 16-25.
They end the season with a 7-8 record.
