Lincoln celebrates Senior Night
with a win over Bloomington
[October 24, 2025]
The Lady Railers honored seniors Jayden Behrends, Lauryn
Crawford, Dabria Dalpoas, Averey Davenport, Makia Hassebrock, Lily
Holmes, Arrington Mauhar, and Lauren Tedrick on Thursday night
before the Varsity game with Bloomington and these girls sure gave
the crowd reason to cheer.

season and it was Senior Night. Photo by Teena Lowery.
The two teams played three exciting sets of volleyball with Lincoln
coming out on top 23-25, 25-16 and 25-14.
Set One
The first set began with a very touching moment as senior Arrington
Mauhar hobbled onto the floor with a big leg brace attached, moving
gently towards the service line. Mauhar is an outstanding athlete
who has participated in soccer, track and volleyball at LCHS. Sadly,
she tore her ACL her junior year during soccer and had surgery and
went through the long recovery process. Then at the beginning of
volleyball tryouts this season she tore the same ACL and this time,
she added the meniscus too. She was a bit nervous to take the court
to serve on Thursday night but she helped her team to a 2-0 lead
before exiting the court. Fellow senior Makia Hassebrock’s two kills
to start the set helped Mauhar earn the service points. Lincoln
captured a 3-1 lead quickly after Lily Holmes got her first kill of
the night. Bloomington came back to take a 4-3 lead and it took
another kill from Hassebrock to tie the set. The two teams kept
exchanging points and ending in ties, keeping the fans engaged in
the excitement. After a tremendous kill by Grace Bivin to make the
score 7-7, Railer Nation started the “She’s a freshman!” chant.
Lincoln would fall behind 7-10 and for a while Bloomington managed a
three-point lead. Lincoln would finally jump in front 16-15 after a
kill by Holmes. The Lady Railers even went ahead 17-16 and then
20-19 on kills by Bivin. Down the stretch the set was tied 21-21
then Bloomington went ahead on two kills, 23-21. Two errors by the
Purple Raiders brought Lincoln back to a tie game but the Lady
Railers could not seal the win. Bloomington surprised Lincoln with a
couple quick tips, the last one after a long volley, giving the
visitors the 25-23 win.
Set Two
Lincoln’s first lead in set two came after a big Bivin kill,
followed by “She’s a freshman!” again and a 4-3 score. Bloomington’s
last lead of the set came after a kill made the score 7-8. A tip by
Behrends tied the set and ignited a 5-0 run. With Lauren Tedrick
serving up a couple aces, the Lady Railers stayed in front 15-9. The
lead would reach 17-9 before a Bloomington timeout. Holmes
retaliated with a kill when play resumed and after an ace from
Hassebrock and a kill by Jocelyn Perkins, the Lady Railers were up
20-14 and the Purple Raiders were already beginning to surrender.
Gracie Adams entered the game to serve and her serve was phenomenal.
The ball barely touched the flailing arms of the defender in the
back row, twice. Adams recorded two quick aces that put Lincoln up
22-14. With Bivin adding one more kill and Holmes coming up strong
with two more kills, Lincoln danced to a 25-16 win.
Set Three
Lincoln jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the final set, thanks to another
ace by Adams, two kills by Bivin and an ace from Holmes. Two more
kills by Behrends kept Lincoln in front 8-6. After back-to-back
kills by Hassebrock and Holmes, Lincoln led 11-8. Hassebrock even
hit the farthest corner for another kill and even though it landed
barely in by the Bloomington bench, the visitors seemed to have
doubts.

Nonetheless the score grew to 15-9. Adams was in a
zone at the service line and it was another ace by her that put
Lincoln up 18-10. It was all over but the crying when Lincoln took a
23-11 lead on a block by Behrends. The Purple Raiders managed a 3-0
run but it was by far too late. Bivin landed one more big kill and
the Bloomington defender was star-struck. The gap was now 24-14 and
with Dobria Dalpoas stepping to the line for game point, Railer
Nation chanted, “Thank you, seniors!” Hassebrock ended Senior Night
with a kill to preserve the 25-14 win.
It was a terrific Senior Night win that prompted Railer Nation to
break out into, “Yo baby, yo baby, yo! You got to be a Railer or you
got to go!” Shoutout to Railer Nation for dressing up in costumes
and bringing high energy to the gym. The students were on their feet
all night long cheering.
As far as favorite senior memories, going to the
IHSA Class 3A State Volleyball Tournament sophomore year and
watching “Hamilton” in a jacuzzi in the hotel room at the QND
Tournament were the top moments. Throw in eating Crumbl Cookies and
Texas Roadhouse and the weekend was perfect.

Lincoln will play at the Quincy Notre Dame
Tournament this weekend and have a chance to make a few more
memories.
To recap earlier volleyball action at Roy S. Anderson, the Lincoln
Freshman team beat Bloomington 25-24 and 25-15.
The Lincoln JV team won 25-11 and 25-16.
Lincoln will also host the IHSA Class 3A Volleyball Regional next
week. Games are set for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
The Lady Railers (17-14) will play Decatur MacArthur on Tuesday,
October 28, 2025 at 7:00 p.m.
Congratulations, seniors!
