Morton captures regional title over
Lincoln
[October 31, 2025]
The Morton Potters defeated Lincoln 25-12 and 25-18 on Thursday
night to win the IHSA Class 3A Regional Championship at Roy S.
Anderson Gymnasium.
Set one
Morton’s Abby VanMeenen started set one with a huge kill and she was
setting the tone for the evening early. Grace Bivin notched her
first kill quickly thereafter and Lincoln took a 2-1 lead. A kill
from Lily Holmes from the back row tied the set 3-3. Jocelyn Perkins
had back-to-back kills to keep Lincoln in front 5-4. Makia
Hassebrock helped Lincoln keep the lead with her first kill of the
night and the Lady Railers were up 7-5. With the Potters getting
down to business and going on a 6-0 run, Lincoln fell behind 7-11.
The closest Lincoln got the rest of the set was 10-13. In the blink
of an eye, Morton crushed eight straight points. Things got ugly for
Lincoln. Too many Lincoln errors combined with some big kills from
Morton’s front row and the Lady Railers were in a deep hole.
Finally, Lincoln was on the losing end of a long volley that put
them down in double-digits. The scoreboard was a sad 10-21. Every
ball the Potters hit was just dropping in their favor. Set one was
put to sleep on a couple more Lincoln errors with the final score
being 25-12 Morton.
Set two
Morton was quick to dominate set two. A 3-0 lead showed early that
the Potters were not about to let any balls drop in their court.
Morton has some really tall girls who play very scrappy volleyball.
On the bright side, Bivin kept the student section on their feet
with a big kill to cut the lead to 4-2. But VanMeenen always had an
answer and she kept the small Morton crowd engaged. Morton jumped
out to a 10-4 lead, forcing Lincoln into a timeout.

Despite two really good kills from Perkins mid-way through the set,
the Potters still commanded a 15-7 lead. Eventually Morton was on
top 18-10 and the season was in jeopardy for Lincoln. Behrends,
Bivin and Hassebrock were able to get kills down but still the 20-13
lead belonged to Morton. Lincoln put up a fight and after Perkins
and Tedrick combined for a great block, the score was 23-16. Bivin
had the last kill of the season for Lincoln, making the score 23-17.
Morton’s Isabelle Mueller notched a kill to end the set 25-18.
Grace Bivin led Lincoln with 7 kills.
Lincoln ends the season with a 21-16 record.
Morton improved to 32-3.
The Potters will play Normal West on Tuesday, November 4, 2025 at
