Senator Sally Turner named 2025
Legislator of the Year by the Illinois Association of County
Veterans Assistance Commissions
[September 17, 2025]
Springfield, IL— State Senator
Sally Turner (R-Beason) has been named the 2025 Legislator of the
Year by the Illinois Association of County Veterans Assistance
Commissions. Senator Turner received the award last night during the
Association’s annual banquet, in recognition of her leadership and
steadfast advocacy on behalf of Illinois veterans.
“Receiving this award from the County Veterans Assistance
Commissions is truly an honor,” said Senator Sally Turner. “Our VACs
are on the front lines serving veterans and their families,
connecting them to care, benefits, and support. I am grateful for
their work and proud to partner with them to remove barriers and
deliver results.”
The Association cited Senator Sally Turner’s work on legislation
that improves the lives of veterans, including Senate Bill 39, now
law, which ensures tiny homes built for homeless and at-risk
veterans by nonprofits like VACs are not burdened by costly Electric
Vehicle infrastructure requirements, and Senate Bill 1518, which
proposed a discount on lifetime fishing licenses for Illinois
veterans.
“This recognition reflects the incredible teamwork it takes to move
good legislation forward,” continued Senator Sally Turner. “I will
continue to make veterans’ issues a top priority, and I look forward
to working with VACs and other veteran service organizations to make
sure the men and women who served our country receive the support
and respect they deserve.”
