All of the scoring between Lincoln and Maroa-Forsyth took
place in the fifth inning on Friday afternoon at Schweitzer Field
with the Lady Railers winning 2-1.
The Trojans scored their run on an RBI double by Simmons in the top
of the fifth inning.
Lincoln plated their first run in the bottom of the fifth inning on
an error. With two outs in the inning, Grey Gilbert singled and
scored on an error by the shortstop when her sister, Sage, hit a
ground ball to short. Laurynn Mayberry singled in the go-ahead run
during the next at-bat and that was all the run production needed
for Lincoln to get the win.
Norah Block earned the win after pitching seven innings. She allowed
seven hits and one run. Block walked one and struck out three
batters.
Addy Mahler led Lincoln with two hits.
Grey Gilbert, Laurynn Mayberry, Preslee Sherren and Morgan Sheley
each had one hit.
Lincoln did not commit an error.
Maroa-Forsyth committed two errors in the game.
Lincoln improved to 6-5.
The Lady Railers will play two games at the Louisville Slugger
Sports Complex today in Peoria.

Lady Railers win two in Peoria
Can the Lady Railers play in Peoria? You bet they can!
The Lincoln Lady Railers softball team played very well, in fact, at
the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex in Peoria on Saturday.
Lincoln defeated Peoria Richwoods 7-5 in game one and took down
Mahomet-Seymour 11-7 in game two.
Game One
Lincoln pounded out ten hits against Peoria Richwoods on Saturday
morning with Laurynn Mayberry slugging four of them. Mayberry had
three doubles and a single to lead the offense in the 7-5 win that
needed nine innings to be decided.
Mayberry’s RBI double scored Sage Gilbert with the first run of the
game in the first inning.
The Knights took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning.
Mayberry led off the third inning with a single and she scored the
tying run on a single by Norah Block.
In the bottom of the fifth inning the Knights went ahead 5-2 with a
triple and two singles contributing to the scoring.
Lincoln scored a run in the top of the sixth inning. Morgan Sheley
led off the inning with a single. She was able to swipe second base
and move to third on a fielder’s choice. Sheley scored on Grey
Gilbert’s ground out.
Lincoln had an exciting top of the seventh inning, tying the game on
two runs. Mayberry’s lead-off double started the rally. She scored
on Addy Mahler’s single to left. Block moved Mahler to second with a
sacrifice bunt. Mahler then stole third base and scored the tying
run on an error by the third baseman.
Mayberry drove home the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning
with another double. Mayberry also stole third here and scored an
insurance run on an error.
The 7-5 lead was preserved in the bottom of the ninth inning when
Mahler threw out a runner trying to steal third and that ended the
game.
Norah Block picked up the win for Lincoln. Block tossed nine
innings, allowing eight hits and five runs. Two of the runs were
earned. Block walked two and struck out ten.

Mayberry’s phenomenal 4-for-5 performance at the
plate included three runs scored and two RBIs.
Sage Gilbert was 2-for-4 at the plate with a walk and two runs
scored.
Addy Mahler, Norah Block, Preslee Sherren and
Morgan Sheley each had hits for Lincoln.
Addison Morrissey was the losing pitcher for Richwoods. She tossed
nine innings and gave up five earned runs. She walked four and
struck out six.
Game Two
Lincoln’s bats were still sizzling in game two with the team
pounding out eleven hits. Addy Mahler led the offense with a double
and two singles as the Lady Railers beat Mahomet-Seymour 11-7 in the
slugfest.
Lincoln was the home team on the scoreboard and they put up three
runs in the bottom of the first inning. Two runners were aboard when
Addy Mahler singled to right to give Lincoln a 2-0 lead. Mahler
scored on an error to give Lincoln a 3-0 advantage.
The Bulldogs had just one hit in the second inning but they tied the
game with the help of three walks and one error.
Mayberry’s double in the bottom of the second inning scored the
Gilbert sisters, giving the lead back to Lincoln. Mahler’s single
scored Mayberry and Lincoln was on top 6-3.
The Bulldogs got a run back in the top of the third inning.
Lincoln was quick to score in the bottom of the third inning when
Sage Gilbert singled to drive in Emma Hutchison.
The Lady Railers extended the lead to 9-4 in the bottom of the
fourth inning. Morgan Sheley’s RBI single drove in Lily Holmes.
Sheley was able to score after stealing second, taking third on an
error and racing home on a passed ball.
An RBI double by the Bulldogs in the top of the fifth inning cut the
lead to 9-5. After a two-run single in the inning the lead was
trimmed to 9-7.
Hutchison led off the Lincoln fifth inning with a single. She was
caught stealing but after Grey Gilbert singled, the Lady Railers
were looking to score. Following a walk to Mayberry, Mahler doubled
to center to bring home both Gilbert and Mayberry. Lincoln’s 11-7
lead in the fifth inning would remain until the final out.
Laurynn Mayberry earned the win for Lincoln. She worked five
innings, giving up six hits and seven runs. Only two of the runs
were earned. She walked five and struck out four.
Norah Block pitched two innings in relief. She allowed two hits and
struck out two batters.
Mahler’s sensational day at the plate included a 3-for-3 performance
with four RBIs and one run scored. She also walked once.
Sage Gilbert was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI.
Grey Gilbert, Laurynn Mayberry, Preslee Sherren, Morgan Sheley,
Madison Kurka and Emma Hutchison each had one hit for Lincoln.
Ainsley Whitaker took the loss for Mahomet-Seymour.
Lincoln improved to 8-5.
Lincoln will play at Springfield High School on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
