Martin leads Hilltoppers to 10-0
win over North Mac

Mount Pulaski senior Luke Martin pitched outstanding and hit
very well on Monday afternoon as the Hilltoppers blanked North Mac
10-0 in Girard.
Martin tossed a one-hit shutout over five innings, allowing just one
walk and striking out ten batters. He faced 17 batters and threw 70
pitches, of which 47 were for strikes.
At the plate Martin led Mount Pulaski with a 2-for-3 performance. He
scored two runs and had three RBIs.
The Hilltoppers had three walks and a base hit in the first inning,
scoring two runs. Martin had a single in the inning.
After Keoni Charron started the second inning with a double, Tucker
Fitzpatrick brought him home on a single. Chase Roberts was then hit
by a pitch and Preston Cowan singled to load the bases. Aaron Volle
drove in another run on a fielder’s choice. North Mac walked the
next two guys, forcing in another run and giving Mount Pulaski a 5-0
lead.
North Mac pitching continued to be a bit wild and in the top of the
third inning the Hilltoppers loaded the bases on walks. This gave
Martin an opportunity to clear the bases with one swing. Martin sent
a double to centerfield and this chased Charron, Fitzpatrick and
Cowan home. Mount Pulaski’s lead was up to 8-0 when the third inning
ended.
Roberts and Martin walked in the top of the fifth inning and they
each scored after Volle doubled to center.

Martin and the Mount Pulaski defense retired the
side in the bottom half of the fifth inning and the Hilltoppers
quickly disposed of the Panthers 10-0.
Mount Pulaski had six hits in the game.
Luke Martin’s two hits led the team while Preston Cowan, Aaron Volle,
Keoni Charron and Tucker Fitzpatrick each had one hit.
Chase Millburg was the losing pitcher for North Mac.
The Hilltoppers are above .500 with the win, improving their record
to 3-2.
Mount Pulaski will host Arthur-Lovington/Atwood Hammond today at
4:30 p.m.
