Lincoln edges Springfield 2-1

[April 08, 2026]  Carson Fuiten was dominant on the mound Tuesday afternoon as the Lincoln Railsplitters beat the Springfield Senators 2-1 in Springfield.

Fuiten needed just two runs to get the win and his team came through with those in the first inning.

Grady Rutledge hit a one-out single to right field and after stealing second he scored on a fielder’s choice by Austin Lucas. Lucas took second on an error by the Senators and then made his way to third on a wild pitch. Owen Comstock hit an RBI single to center to score Lucas to give Lincoln the early 2-0 lead.

The Senators did threaten to score in the bottom of the first inning with two runners aboard quickly but Fuiten was able to record a strikeout, catcher Karson Komnick threw a runner out attempting to steal second base and Fuiten induced a groundout to short.

Fuiten struck out the side in the second inning and he escaped damage in the fourth inning thanks to a double play turned by the Railsplitters.

The next threat came in the bottom of the seventh inning with two runners aboard and Lincoln clinging to a 2-0 lead.

Jacob Scheffler doubled to left field to score Wade Snyder and as the Senators were trying to tie the game, Spencer Wienecke was thrown out at home by Cooper Koehler.

A great way to end the game and preserve the 2-1 win.

Fuiten worked seven innings, giving up six hits and one run. He walked two and struck out eight. Fuiten faced 25 batters and threw 85 pitches, of which 56 were for strikes.

Brody Scheffler was the losing pitcher for the Senators but he pitched a tremendous game, going seven innings as well. He allowed two hits and two runs and walked just one batter. He struck out 17 Railsplitters.

Lincoln improved to 6-5.

The Railsplitters will play at Springfield Lanphier Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
