Lincoln gets walk-off win over Athens

[April 14, 2026]  The Lady Railers beat the Athens Warriors 4-3 on a walk-off win Monday afternoon at Schweitzer Field.

With the game knotted 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Preslee Sherren started the rally with a single to center and she took second on an error by the Warriors. Lily Holmes followed with a fielder’s choice that allowed Sherren to reach third base. With one out, Sage Gilbert lifted a sacrifice fly to center that allowed Sherren to score the game-winning run.

Athens jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning but Lincoln was quick to score two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Sage Gilbert led off the game with a walk and a stolen base and she scored on Laurynn Mayberry’s single to left. Addy Mahler’s ground ball scored Mayberry with the go-ahead run.

Athens tied the game on a single and a couple errors by Lincoln in the third inning.

Lincoln took the lead again in the bottom of the sixth inning when Grey Gilbert doubled and scored on an error.

Athens tied the game again in the top of the seventh inning on a solid double and single. After a pop out the Lady Railers ended any further scoring threat by the Warriors with a inning-ending double play.

Ten pitches later in the bottom of the seventh inning the Lady Railers walked off with a 4-3 win for starter Norah Block.

Block threw the complete game, allowing seven hits and three runs. Only two of the runs were earned. She walked two and struck out four.

Block threw 92 pitches and 61 were for strikes.

MacKenzie Ratliff was the losing pitcher for Athens. She worked six and two-thirds innings, giving up three hits and four runs. Only two of the runs were earned. She walked one and struck out three.

Lincoln improves to 10-7.

Athens falls to 10-4.

The Lady Railers will host Normal University High today at 4:30 p.m.
